Meet Our Veterinarians
Dr. Edward W. Kurose, DVM
Ned founded Strawberry Hill Animal Hospital in 1987 and co-founded A Cat's Place in 1997. Here since the beginning, he's helped the practices grow and expand into what they are today. He graduated from Fairfield University in 1981 as a biology major and then as a Florida Gator, graduated University of Florida with his veterinary degree in 1986. Practicing veterinary medicine for 25 years, he's become the head surgeon on Strawberry Hill and A Cat's Place. With his interest and continued education and training, he's become our practice's specialist on orthopedic cases. When not at the animal hospitals, Dr. Kurose enjoys gardening with Julie, spending time with his family, boating and running. Ned and Julie share their home with Russell (an Irish Setter), Bailey (a black lab) and their three cats – Sophie, Rosie and Phoebe.
Dr. David S. Santisi, DVM
One of the owners and a practicing veterinarian at Strawberry Hill Animal Hospital and A Cat's Place, Dave has been an influential part of Strawberry Hill for over 16 years. He got his B.S. in Animal Science as well as his veterinary degree from Cornell University. He's been working here since graduating as a DVM in 1993 and has helped continue to promote the family environment he found here. Dave has spent time continuing his education in eye surgery, managing animal hospitals and feline medicine. With that interest in feline medicine, he helped create the quiet cat specialized facility, A Cat's Place. When not at Strawberry Hill or A Cat's Place, Dave lives with his wife, Sarah, his sons, Logan and Kyle and cat, Eli. He enjoys playing and watching sports, travelling and spending time with his friends and family.
Dr. Patricia Doherty, DVM
Patricia Doherty graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. She then completed a one year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Oradell Animal Hospital in New Jersey. Originally from Long Island, Dr. Doherty earned her B.S. in Biology at Stony Brook University. Dr. Doherty has a special interest in internal medicine and pain management in older cats. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two cats and her dog, a German Short-haired Pointer. Dr. Doherty feels that being part of a team that concentrates on cats is a dream come true and enables them to provide the highest quality care to these special creatures!
Dr. Kara Caldwell, DVM
Dr. Caldwell really loves the new challenges that every day brings and the unpredictability of veterinary medicine. She attended undergraduate school at the University of Rhode Island and received separate degrees in Psychology, Biology, and Animal Science with a minor in chemistry focusing on explosive forensics. She attended veterinary school at Tufts University and the Masters in Public Health program at the University of Minnesota. In public health classes she fell in love with emergency preparedness and preventative medicine, both of which are the focus of her thesis.
At home she lives with her husband and three cats: Mercy, Columbus, and Maggie. Mercy and Columbus were victims of Hurricane Katrina that she had fostered and kept when no one came forward to claim them. Maggie is a Ragdoll cat that came to Dr. Caldwell after being abused by her owner as a kitten, but you would never be able to tell by her loving personality. Promoting the health and welfare of cats while maintaining the human-animal bond is very important to Dr. Caldwell, and she is happy to be part of a feline-focused team that feels the same way.
